The Boba Fett Star Wars spin-off is reportedly coming, with Logan's James Mangold at the helm

It seems LucasFilm haven't abandoned the idea of a Boba Fett spin-off after all if the latest report in Variety is to be believed.

It appears that Logan director James Mangold has been snapped up to direct a film based around the bounty hunter with Simon Kinberg involved in some capacity.

Boba Fett was supposedly the subject of a film being developed by Josh Trank until its announcement was abruptly pulled by LucasFilm just before going public. Since then the two other spin-offs have been released - the most recent being Solo: A Star Wars Story, and other spin-off projects have been rumoured and announced.

The latest news, that Variety is claiming comes from a number of sources, is exciting - Logan was one of the best genre films released last year so having James Mangold leading the development bodes well for another excellent Star Wars film. However, there is a huge question whether Boba Fett really needs a film of his own - his role in the saga is tiny and we'd much rather an early Leia film if we had to continue to explore existing characters.

The reappearance of the Boba Fett film means that right now we are aware of around ten Star Wars films that are in some state of rumour/development including Episode IX, Rian Johnson's trilogy, D.B. Wiess and David Benioff's 'series of films', the rumoured Obi-wan film with Stephen Daldry at the helm, more Solo films (Alden Ehrenreich is signed up for three films in total - although one of these could well be the Boba Fett film) and Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian which Kathleen Kennedy has expressed an interest in.
