Wildlife trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan star in Paul Dano's directorial debut

Paul Dano and his partner Zoe Kazan (Elia's granddaughter) have written the screenplay for the actor's first attempt behind the camera. Wildlife picked up rave reviews at this year's Sundance and Cannes film festivals and looks like the sort of powerful drama that will come into contention come the awards season. You can watch the first trailer for Wildlife above right now.

Sensitive 16-year-old Joe is the only child of Jeanette and Jerry - a housewife and golf pro in a small town in 1960s Montana. Nearby, an uncontrolled forest fire rages close to the Canadian border, and when Jerry loses his job-and his sense of purpose he decides to join the cause of fighting the fire, leaving his wife and son to fend for themselves. Suddenly forced into the role of an adult, Joe witnesses his mother embark on her own adventure, as she transgresses into an affair with an older man.

Dano and Kazan have adapted Richard Ford's novel of the same name, with a cast featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, Carey Mulligan, Bill Camp, Ed Oxenbould and Zoe Margaret Colletti.

Wildlife roams into UK screens on November 9th 2018.
