Studio 54 trailer: A documentary looking back at the iconic disco nightclub
Studio 54 in New York was one of the clubs of the 70s, establishing itself at the centre point of the disco movement during the later half of the decade and gaining a reputation for its wild parties and celebrity culture. Back in 1998 there was an awful film by the name of 54 starring Salma Hayek and Neve Campbell which attempted to capture its energy, but now there is a new documentary about the club, its owners and those who spent their time there which is due for release soon and Dogwoof now have a UK trailer for Studio 54 which you can watch right now.
Studio 54 was the epicentre of '70s hedonism—a monumental magnet for beautiful stars, casual sex, and mounds of cocaine, a den of excess that defined its own rules and enshrined the ostracised, queer, and fabulous. Using rare footage, a parade of colourful patrons and staff and brutally honest interviews with founder Ian Schrager himself, this bracing story reveals how even the most culturally potent and transformative phenomena can be vulnerable and fleeting.
Matt Tyrnauer (Valentino: The Last Emperor) is in the directors chair and Studio 54 is due to hustle onto UK screens on June 15th 2018.
