This Week's UK Cinema Releases

Solo: A Star Wars Story flies into cinemas this week and after being put through the mill during the production, the safe hands of Ron Howard looks to have delivered a 'safe' film, if the reviews are anything to go by. Elsewhere, Cartoon Saloon return with the beautifully animated The Breadwinner, while Show Dogs has a lot of, erm, farting dogs to bark about. Sheila Hancock heads up Edie and The Rape of Recy Taylor and This Is Congo are two documentaries looking back on civil rights and a war-torn country respectively.





Edie

83 year old Edie believes that it is never too late - packing an old camping bag, leaving her life behind and embarking on an adventure she never got to have - climbing the imposing Mount Suilven in Scotland.





Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran

A look at India's first confidential nuclear test series at Pokhran lead by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, during the time of PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's tenure.





Show Dogs

Starring: Will Arnett, Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges, Natasha Lyonne, Jordin Sparks, Shaquille O'Neil, Alan Cumming, Stanley Tucci

Max, a macho, solitary Rottweiler police dog is ordered to go undercover as a primped show dog in a prestigious Dog Show, along with his human partner, to avert a disaster from happening.

A headstrong young girl in Afghanistan disguises herself as a boy in order to provide for her family.





The Little Vampire (3D)



Directors: Richard Claus, Karsten Killerich
Starring: Rasmus Hardiker, Amy Saville, Jim Carter

Rudolph, a 13-year-old vampire, meets Tony, a mortal boy his age who loves old castles, graveyards and vampires. Tony helps Rudolph to fight against a notorious vampire hunter, and together they save Rudolph's family and become friends.





The Rape of Recy Taylor



Director: Nancy Buirski

Mrs. Recy Taylor was gang raped by six white boys in 1944 Alabama. Unbroken, she spoke up and fought for justice with help from Rosa Parks and legions of women.





This is Congo



Director: Daniel McCabe

An unfiltered look in to the lives of 3 characters surviving amongst the most recent cycle of conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo, otherwise known as the M23 rebellion.
