Filmworker trailer: Leon Vitali gives us a fascinating insight into working alongside Stanley Kubrick
Kubrick enthusiasts are likely to be aware of Leon Vitali - the British actor who gave up his thriving career after starring as Lord Bullingdon in Barry Lyndon to become Kubrick's loyal right-hand man for the next two decades. Filmworker played at last years London Film Festival but as is usually the case with so many documentaries it was mostly overlooked although it is great to see it picked up distribution for the UK. Take a look at the trailer for Filmworker above to get a taste of what's in store. You can also read our LFF review for the film here.
Leon played a crucial role behind-the-scenes helping Kubrick make and maintain his legendary body of work. The complex, interdependent relationship between Leon and Kubrick was founded on devotion, sacrifice and the gruelling, joyful reality of the creative process. By entering their unique world we come to understand how the mundane gives rise to the magnificent as timeless cinema is brought to life at its most practical and profound level.
Tony Zierra directs with appearances by Ryan O'Neal, Danny Lloyd (now all grown up from The Shining), Matthew Modine, and the recently deceased R. Lee Ermey all recalling their own personal stories of working with Vitali and Kubrick on set.
Filmworker arrives in the UK on May 18th 2018.
