The Escape trailer: The pressures of family life become too much for Gemma Arterton

The title of Gemma Arterton's latest film, The Escape, makes you think of a thriller of some kind, but this drama is far more of a character study than anything else. Arterton has been maturing into a fine actress over the years, with her turn in The Finest really leaving its mark. Watch the trailer for The Escape above and see what you make of it.

A woman sets out to reclaim her life in this stirring, emotionally rich look at what it means to start over. Tara (Gemma Arterton), a housewife in suburban London, is living a life that is no longer hers: it belongs to her overworked, self-absorbed husband (Dominic Cooper); her young son and daughter; and the numbing routine of housework and childcare.

In desperate need of a change, Tara one day makes a bold decision. Armed with a one-way ticket to Paris, she leaves everything behind to rediscover herself in a new city - but walking out on your life isn’t so simple…

Dominic Savage (Love + Hate) directs, with Frances Barber, Marthe Keller and Montserrat Lombard also in support.

The Escape appears on UK cinemas screens on July 27th 2018.
