Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata has died
Isao Takahata, co-founder of Studio Ghibli alongside Hayao Miyazaki and director of one of the most critically lauded animations of all time, Grave of the Fireflies, has died aged 82.
Takahata started his career at animation studio Toei in 1959 where he met his long-time collaborator, Miyazaki with whom he went on to form the Studio Ghibli with in 1985.
His film credits include the previously mentioned Grave of the Fireflies, a heartbreaking story of two children in Second World War Japan, along with some of Ghibli's other most praised films such as Only Yesterday and Pom Poko. His most recent film was 2013's Oscar nominated The Tale of Princess Kaguya
