Cargo trailer: Martin Freeman in a race against time against the zombies

It's a little hard not to roll your eyes at the thought of yet another zombie film. Just when you think the genre is completely out of ideas, along comes another one tempting you to give it a go. The trailer for Cargo stars Martin Freeman and uses the ideal backdrop of the Australian Outback as the setting for an apocalyptic-style story (which more recently worked perfectly in David Michôd's The Rover). Check out the trailer above to find out more.

The film is about a father who, stranded in rural Australia in the aftermath of a violent pandemic and, infected himself, desperately seeks a new home for his infant child and a means to protect her from his own changing nature. Salvation may lie with an isolated Aboriginal tribe, but to gain access he must first earn the allegiance of a young Indigenous girl on a tragic quest of her own.

Yolanda Ramke and Ben Howling direct a film based on their short of the same name made back in 2013. Anthony Hayes, Susie Porter and Caren Pistorius (Slow West) are in the cast supporting Freeman in the lead role.

Cargo gets an Australian release in mid-May and will be released on Netflix in the UK.
