Ready Player One trailer: Prepare for an overload of 80s nostalgia
The 80s revival has been happening for well over a decade now, infiltrating every part of popular culture you can think of and yet it doesn't look like fading out anytime soon. With the world waiting to see if Spielberg's Ready Player One cuts the mustard (early reviews have been mostly favourable so far) the blockbuster maestro is gearing up to deliver more nostalgia that you can shake a VHS tape at. As you can see from the trailer above, the Iron Giant, Back to the Future and A-ha are just some of the bits and pieces he has in store.
The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance).
When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. Then an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, and he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.
Ready Player One arrives in UK cinemas on March 29th 2018.
