Sorry To Bother You trailer: An early contender for comedy of the year?
Boots Riley's debut film made a lot of noise at Sundance in January and the first trailer for Sorry To Bother You was released overnight by Annapurna Pictures. It stars Lakeith Stanfield in the lead role and looks set to further cement his status as one of the best comedic actors around right now. Check it out above and see what you think.
The film is set in a dystopian not-too-distant future, where telemarketer Cassius Green discovers a magical key to professional success and is propelled into a macabre universe. Anyone who is aware of Riley's The Coup (their last album in 2012 was also titled Sorry to Bother You) will know they have always been a politically charged rap group and while providing plenty of laughs, this looks like offering more than just straightforward gags.
The supporting cast features David Cross (as the white guy voice), Tessa Thompson as Cassius' girlfriend Detroit, and Armie Hammer as Steve Lift, CEO of the company. Patton Oswalt, Danny Glover, Steven Yeun, Jermaine Fowler, Omari Hardwick and Terry Crews also feature.
Sorry To Bother You gets a US release in July and will hopefully arrive in the UK by the last quarter of 2018.
