This Week's UK Cinema Releases

Week Commencing February 19th 2018

With the Winter Olympics in full flow we get two ice skating related films this week. I, Tonya, telling the (sort of) true story about Tonya Harding's rise and fall, and documentary The Ice King, recalling the life of British skater John Curry. Director Clio Barnard returns after a 5 year absence with rural drama Dark Water, while British rom-com Finding Your Feet gets a wide release. Birth of the Dragon retells Bruce Lee's life story, while two Chinese films - Operation Red Sea and Monster Hunt 2 (which scooped up $190m in its opening weekend in China) - also get conservative releases.

Birth of the Dragon

Set against the backdrop of 1960s San Francisco, Birth of the Dragon is a modern take on the classic movies that Bruce Lee was known for. It takes its inspiration from the epic and still controversial showdown between an up-and-coming Bruce Lee and kung fu master Wong Jack Man - a battle that gave birth to a legend.

Dark River

Following the death of her father, Alice returns to her home village for the first time in 15 years, to claim the tenancy to the family farm she believes is rightfully hers.

Finding Your Feet

A middle-class snob on the eve of retirement takes refuge with her bohemian sister after she discovers her husband is having an affair with her best friend.

I, Tonya

Competitive ice skater Tonya Harding rises amongst the ranks at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, but her future in the activity is thrown into doubt when her ex-husband intervenes.

Monster Hunt 2

The story continues with Wuba after he parts way with his human parents Tian and Lan for his own journey.

The Touch
