MK2 launch Iranian collection

French distributor MK2 have recently started a new section in their impressive collection based on the cinema of Iran. They've kick started the collection with five DVDs of three of the country's most celebrated directors:

  • The Silence
  • Gabbeh
  • Salam Cinema (all three by Moshen Makhmalbaf, director of Kandahar)
  • The Apple (Samira Makhmalbaf)
  • A Time for Drunken Horses (Bahman Ghobadi)

Thankfully, MK2 have included included English subtitles for the main feature on each disc and the included extras are as usual very well chosen ranging from film shorts and critical analysis to documentaries... None of these films have, to the best of our knowledge, seen a release in the UK yet (bar A Time... see comment below) and will be a must buy for any fan of Iranian cinema.

To add to this piece of good news, we'll be providing complete reviews of all five of these discs over the next few weeks or so but for those you can't wait to buy them, you can order directly from MK2, or Cinéstore

We need your help

Running a website like The Digital Fix - especially one with over 20 years of content and an active community - costs lots of money and we need your help. As advertising income for independent sites continues to contract we are looking at other ways of supporting the site hosting and paying for content.

You can help us by using the links on The Digital Fix to buy your films, games and music and we ask that you try to avoid blocking our ads if you can. You can also help directly for just a few pennies per day via our Patreon - and you can even pay to have ads removed from the site entirely.
