This Week's UK Cinema Releases

Week Commencing October 2nd 2017

It's hard to look beyond the return of a classic that will no doubt dominate cinemas for weeks to come. No, we don't mean Raja Menon's Bollywood reworking of Jon Favreau's Chef, but of course, Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049 sequel. Backed by a $185 million budget, Roger Deakins as DoP and Hans Zimmer called in at the last minute to re-work the score, Warner Bros have pulled out all the stops. They've chosen their week of release extremely carefully too, with no competition in site for its opening weekend. While both The Glass Castle and The Mountain Between Us are fairly big productions, they will play to a different demographic. Aside from a directors cut of the Coen's Blood Simple on limited release, documentaries like Michael Winterbottom's On The Road and The Reagan Show and João Pedro Rodrigues' strangely beguiling The Ornithologist, it looks like a clear run for the return of Deckard and co.
