Sony launches their first PAL Progressive DVD Players
Today Sony sent through a press release outlining the launch of two new DVD players, the first in their range here in the UK to come with built-in PAL Progressive capability. Not much in the way of specifications were included but there is some information on the new technology found in these players that include the readily available DVP-NS999ES, Sony’s new flagship model that carries a modest retail price of £999.99! Fortunately the DVP-NS930, due in July, will be available for around £300 if not less from online retailers and still manages to offer PAL progressive output.
Home cinema enthusiasts can now enjoy crisper, clearer images with film-like quality thanks to Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive technology with built-in PAL Progressive capability. Incorporated in to the new DVP-NS930 and DVP-NS999ES DVD players, Precision Cinema Progressive technology delivers double the number of lines to the screen, giving a much higher resolution when used in conjunction with compatible displays.
Precision Cinema Progressive
Sony's proprietary Precision Cinema Progressive system incorporates Pixel-by-Pixel I/P Conversion technology to augment and balance DVD-video elements, and ensure excellent picture quality. The conversion method removes distortion commonly found in original formats to optimise every area of the video image.
The Pixel-by-Pixel Active I/P Conversion process, with still and motion modes, sharpens both slow and fast moving video objects to maintain the integrity of the video's source material.
Additional elements of the Precision Cinema Progressive system include the Super Sub Alias Filter, which delivers crisp, clean images through better signal-to-noise ratio and superb frequency response, and V-Edge Compensation, which virtually eliminates jagged edges on diagonal lines. Picture quality is further enhanced by the system's Noise Shaped Video(tm) (NSV)* feature which uses sigma delta modulation to reduce video noise. By incorporating these sophisticated technologies, the latest DVD players provide video playback of exceptional quality.
Sony displays with a progressive input include:
* KLV-30MR1 LCD WEGA
* KE-32TS2 Plasma WEGA
* KE-42TS2 Plasma WEGA
* KE-42MR1 Plasma WEGA
* VPL-VW12HT home cinema projector
* VPL-HS10 home cinema projector
The DVP-NS999ES is available from this month (June) and the DVP-NS930V launches in July. All of the displays are available now.
