From the PR...
The brainchild of John Hawkesworth, the award-winning creator of international television drama successes such as Upstairs Downstairs and The Duchess of Duke Street, and based on the memoirs of real-life bomb disposal expert Major A.B. Hartley, DANGER UXB (military shorthand for "unexploded bomb") concerns the exploits of the fearless members of an army bomb-disposal unit operating out of London during the Second World War. For many British citizens living in the shadow of the German blitz on London, the greatest danger was not from the falling bombs, but from the hundreds of unexploded bombs left scattered across the city and surrounding countryside. DANGER UXB tells the dramatic stories of the work, lives and loves of the brave men of 347 Section, a hastily set-up unit charged with defusing the deadly and often booby-trapped enemy weapons.
Anthony Andrews (Upstairs Downstairs; Brideshead Revisited) stars as Lieutenant Brian Ash, a young soldier newly assigned to the UXB unit. His maturation as an officer and his developing love affair with Susan Mount (Judy Geeson), the married daughter of military scientist Dr. David Gillespie (Iain Cuthbertson), provide the human and emotional focus of the series. His story also serves as the perfect dramatic counterpoint to the nail-biting tension of the potentially explosive job at hand. A gripping drama series, DANGER UXB is also a vivid social document of life in wartime Britain and a fitting tribute to the men and women who constantly placed their lives in danger on behalf of their countrymen.
The series stars a host of top British acting talent, including Anthony Andrews (Upstairs Downstairs; Brideshead Revisited), Maurice Roëves (A Family At War; Tutti Frutti), Judy Geeson (To Sir With Love; 10 Rillington Place; Prudence And The Pill; Doomwatch), Alfie Bass (Till Death Us Do Part; The Army Game), John Bowler (Auf Wiedersehen, Pet), David Buck (Mansfield Park), Steven Grives (Flambards), Iain Cuthbertson (A Perfect Spy), Kenneth Cranham (Brideshead Revisited; Shine On Harvey Moon), Kenneth Farrington (Coronation Street), Tim Pigott-Smith (The Jewel In The Crown), Louisa Rix (Harry Enfield And Chums), Jeremy Sinden (Brideshead Revisited; Middlemarch) and Deborah Watling (Doctor Who).
