Mike Mignola lets slip that Hellboy will get the reboot treatment

Earlier this year a social campaign by Guillermo Del Toro proved there was a huge amount of interest in a final Hellboy film starring Ron Perlman as the titular demon, but subsequent talks involving Hellboy creator Mike Mignola broke down resulting in a tweet from Del Toro putting the final nail coffin stating that the final film would never happen.

Fast forward to last night and Mignola broke his silence with the revelation that a reboot Hellboy film is in the works with Stranger Things David Harbour picking up the sawn off horns as lead and with Brit director, Neil Marshall (The Descent) at the helm.

In a post on his Facebook page, Mignola also stated that the film would be R rated.

This news is certain to split fans - those who want more Hellboy in whatever form and those who were keen on a continuation of the previous film series. Already social media is awash with people from both ends of the spectrum celebrating/complaining in equal measure.

The Hollywood Reporter further confirmed the story adding that production company "Millennium is in negotiations with producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin for a new installment that would reboot and relaunch the property. Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment is also producing."
