A WHOLE new character has been added to the already-shot Star Trek Beyond

Despite the film being just a few months away from release, Star Trek Beyond, may not be working quite as well as Justin Lin and Simon Pegg have let on. A whole new character has been added to the film by way of reshoots in the hope of creating something more cohesive.

The character is played by Shohreh Aghdashloo, who has previously been seen in the likes of 24 and X-Men: The Last Stand; she will reportedly play someone high up in Starfleet Command so it's possible that she's being used to bring some exposition to help the story along.

While reshoots aren't uncommon, the introduction of a new character is a little more concerning. Lets hope that her addition will blend in with what's already been shot and that she has a positive impact on the film.

Star Trek Beyond is directed by Justin Lin and stars Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as Bones, Simon Pegg as Scotty, John Cho as Sulu and Anton Yelchin as Checkov. It arrives in UK cinemas on 22nd July.
