TDF Film Podcast 48 - Ten Miscast Actors
Also available on: iTunes | stitcher
If youve been following our film homepage in the last week or so then youll have learnt of the untimely passing of our friend and fellow podcaster Mike Sutton. Hed been battling cancer of one form or the other for some time and in early November he sadly passed away owing to complications from his treatment for oesophageal cancer. All we can say is that were going to miss our bighearted colleague greatly and you can read more from the rest of the team in the article posted earlier in the week.
Our latest episode was recorded in early September when Mike was still with us but severely under the weather & unable to take part, so sadly there isnt any appropriate tribute or mention of his work on the podcast. Were going to save that for our End of Year Review podcast that will be recorded & posted in December, so look out for that.
Episode 48 of the TDF Film Podcast covers actors who through either studio politics or simply incompetant casting have found themselves in roles that they were hopelesly ill-equipped to pull off, either through their own lack of skill or simply because they are so far removed from the character theyre playing, they might as well have been aliens from another galaxy attempting to understand the strangest recesses of human nature. The format of the pod is a top10 list with a bit of discussion on the more notorious bits of (mainly Hollywood) miscasting over the years. Needless to say, Keanu Reeves gets more than a passing mention... The Ten Miscast Actors we have chosen are:
Halle Berry as Patience Phillips / Catwoman in Catwoman (2004)
John Wayne as Temujin, aka Genghis Khan in The Conqueror (1956)
Keanu Reeves as John Constantine in Constantine (2005)
Leonardo DiCaprio as Amsterdam Vallon in Gangs of New York (2002)
Sofia Coppola as Mary Corleone in The Godfather: Part III (1990)
Michael Caine as Professor Brand in Interstellar (2014)
Kris Kristofferson as Hubbell Smith in Rollover (1981)
Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
Gary Oldman as Rolfe in Tiptoes (2003)
Everyone in Memoirs of a Geisha (2005)
Episode 48 contributors: John White (host) and Matt Shingleton
As always we hope you'll get in touch with us in the comments section if you feel like chiming in on the subject at hand!
