Idris Elba confirms his role in Star Trek Beyond
Idris Elba has been talking about his role in the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, confirming rumours of his casting. The Luther star is reportedly going to be the film's big bad - and we're hopeful that this time around he will be an original character and not someone we already know.
Elba said "almost everyone was a Trekkie, really, weren't they? I wouldn't say I was a hardcore one but I definitely watched that show a million times. Spock was probably my favourite character - and in this one I have some scenes with Zachary Quinto."
Star Trek Beyond is the third film in the franchise that was rebooted in 2009 featuring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto as Kirk and Spock. Unlike Star Trek Into Darkness which many consider a misstep thanks to revisiting the revered Kahn storyline, the new film is expected to break new ground and see the crew begin their five year mission to "seek out new and new civilizations".
Star Trek Beyond arrives in cinemas in July 2016 and is directed by Justin Lin. It stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Simon Pegg and Idris Elba.
