Will Deadpool Feature In Future X-Men Films?
With the Deadpool film finally confirmed for release in 2016, news comes our way that the "merc with a mouth" may even feature in the expanded cinematic universe that Fox are trying to build with their X-Men characters.
Universe building is very much the norm for the major studio blockbusters these days. With Marvel setting the trend, DC are following suit, and even Universal are getting in on the act with plans to link their rebooted monster films into a shared universe, Fox of course want to follow suit.
Fox own the rights to the X-Men characters as well as the Fantastic Four, and while those two will seemingly be kept apart, the X-Men are going to a part of bigger plan. X-Men: Days of Future Past writer, Simon Kinberg, had the following to say on whether Deadpool will feature as a part of the X-universe:
"There's definitely a sort of overall plan that we've all been talking about for the X-Men universe now, and Deadpool obviously fits into that. So yeah, I guess I would say it's part of certainly an overall timeline and thought process that goes into these films, some of which is inspired by the comics and some which is inspired by seeing what Marvel's done with telling a larger tapestry and linking all those movies together, even as they stand independently as well. The same kind of thought is going to go into these X-Men movies at Fox."
The next instalment of the X-Men franchise, currently titled X-Men: Apocalypse, will apparently conclude the trilogy for the First Class cast, and will be released in 2016, while a Gambit spin-off starring Channing Tatum is also in the works.
Deadpool will be in cinemas in 2016.
