Dwayne Johnson Set To Play Black Adam In The Shazam Film
After months of teasing us, Dwayne Johnson has finally confirmed that he will indeed be a part of the upcoming Shazam film for DC and Warner Bros.
Speculation began a while back when Johnson all but confirmed his involvement in the film during an interview with Total Film. Yesterday saw Johnson take to Twitter and confirm his role as the villainous Black Adam, who is the evil counterpart to the heroic Shazam. Black Adam possesses many of the same powers as Shazam, and just like hero he has to only say the word "Shazam" for his powers to take hold.
The film currently has no director in place, but does have a writer in the form of Darren Lemke (Turbo & Jack The Giant Slayer). It has also been revealed that New Line Cinema, who are a subsidiary of Warner Bros., will produce the film, which has led to speculation as to whether the film will form a part of DC's shared cinematic universe.
New Line president Toby Emmerich had the following to say: " It feels to me like Shazam will have a tone unto itself. It's a DC comic, but it's not a Justice League character, and it's not a Marvel comic. The tone and the feeling of the movie will be different from the other range of comic book movies. It will have a sense of fun and a sense of humor. But the stakes have to be real."
While that does not necessarily confirm Shazam's absence from the DCU, it does at least hint that the character is not a part of the immediate plans to place him in the planned Justice League film.
