Box Office Report
Marvel Studios Guardians of The Galaxy maintained top spot at the US box office, while also cementing itself as the film of the summer.
Marvel's latest effort finished the weekend with another $17 million in the bank to add its already hefty haul of $275.3 million. The tenth film in the Marvel franchise is now ranked fifth for box office earnings, and sits behind Avengers: Assemble and the Iron Man trilogy, while Guardians has easily taken over Marvel's earlier effort from this year in Captain America: The WInter Soldier.
The rebooted Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film finished the weekend in second place after taking in another $11.9 million. This takes the films domestic haul to $166.3 million. While the film is still yet to be released in some foreign territories, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles already has a worldwide gross of $278.4 million.
If I Stay maintained third place with a weekend haul of $9.3 million, which takes its total to a respectable $29.8 million.
The only new entry in this weeks top five was horror film As Above, So Below which opened to $8.3 million. The film, from Universal Studios, has had some respectable if unspectacular reviews and despite a heavy drop predicted domestically could still make its money back in overseas takings.
Rounding out this weeks top five is Let's Be Cops, which fell one place from fourth and is in its third week of release. The comedy has defied its expectations and with another $8.2 million in the bank, has already earned $57.3 million domestically.
