Weve kept you waiting quite a while now for the once timely TDF Film Podcast to resume, so the team have decided to return with a bang by tackling a filmmaker who generates the highest of high levels of geek reverence in most of our contributors: Mr. Dario Argento. In short the great Italian filmmaker is the true maestro of the bloody murder-mystery giallo genre and the maniacal creator of the trance-inducing multicolour miasma that is Suspiria. Argentos influence on the horror and thriller genres is so immense that many refer to him as the Italian Hitchcock, a title entirely earned in terms of spirit rather than actual stylistic similarities.
Well give you the complete lowdown on Argentos origins as a scriptwriter-turned-director back in late 60s and early 70s and follow his career through its golden years of the 70s and 80s up until his eventual decline in the noughties. We still love the man, but hes not been firing on all cylinders for a while now and well go into all that and more!
Our perennial host John White had the good fortune to interview Argento a few years back when he was promoting the UK release of Mother of Tears, so do please check that out if you missed it the first time round!
Episode 33 contributors: John White (host), Matt Shingleton, and Kev Gilvear
We cover just about every film in Argentos oeuvre in this episode so here are some trailers for a few of his most famous - or indeed infamous - works:
The Bird with the Crystal Plumage
Mother of Tears
As always we hope you'll get in touch with us in the comments section if you feel like chiming in on the subject at hand!
