Jimi Hendrix Biography Back in the Works
Anthony Mackie, last seen tearing through the skies in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, has signed on to portray guitar legend Jimi Hendrix, for an upcoming feature based upon the final ten days of the rock star’s life.
The film is written by Ol Parker (Now Is Good, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), who will also direct, with Thandie Newton in a yet undisclosed role, and Noomi Rapace apparently in talks to star alongside Mackie as Hendrix’s girlfriend Kathy Etchingham.
This isn’t the first time that Mackie has been linked to a Hendrix biopic. A few years earlier he was set to take on the part for Paul Greengrass, in what would have been Crosstown Traffic, but issues between the studio and Hendrix’s estate forced production to halt when they couldn’t licence original recordings. With those issues now resolved, it seems that things can finally move full steam ahead.
Hendrix was also portrayed recently by André 3000 in John Ridley’s Jimi: All Is by My Side, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September to mixed criticism.
