'Marvel Cinematic Universe' most successful film franchise in US history
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has beaten The Lord of the Rings and the Harry Potter series to become the highest grossing film franchise in US history.
Along with the recent release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the series' domestic gross is now over $2.46bn, not adjusted for inflation, and shows no signs of stopping. This is more than the seven Star Wars instalments, as well as the 24 James Bond films.
With Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man on the way, as well as the other releases scheduled to 2028, Marvel are currently sitting pretty.
