TDF Film News Roundup
Despite a poor box office performance in the States, Pacific Rim has done so well internationally that Legendary Pictures are actually considering a sequel to last years monsters vs robots juggernaut. After home video sales, along with merchandise sales the film grossed well over $400 million worldwide. Here's hoping director Guillermo Del Toro has some good ideas for the sequel. Collider
Director David Fincher has one request if he takes the hot seat for Sony Pictures very own Steve Jobs biopic; he wants Christian Bale to star as Jobs and won't even consider anyone else for the role. The director has recently been sought after for the film, but apparently made the demand to Amy Pascal of Sony. Whether Sony give into his demand or simply seek a new director remains to be seen, but in my eyes they could do a lot worse than Bale, and employ an idiot like Ashton Kutcher. The Wrap
Nikki Finke has broke the news/rumour that Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie & 21 Jump Street) could be in line to direct Ghostbusters 3 now that the director of the previous two films, Ivan Reitman, has dropped out. So, no Reitman and no Bill Murray along with a new cast of Ghostbusters apparently being introduced? Forgive me now, but if if this film was going to be made then it would have been done already. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love Ghostbusters, but even as huge fan of the films and the various actors who star in the film, I have no real desire to watch a third instalment anymore. Twitter
Forget Batman Vs Superman, it’s now DC Vs Marvel as the two cinematic juggernauts are going head to head on a shared May 6th 2016 release date. Marvel has had the date pencilled in for a while now, with an as yet unannounced film due to take that spot. While DC waded in and declared that Batman Vs Superman will also be released on the same day. It is not currently known what new film Marvel plan on releasing for that slot and despite many predicting that DC have the bigger release, Marvel are seemingly unwilling to budge from a slot they have generally held since the first Iron Man movie was released in 2008. Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige gave the following quote to Slashfilm;
"We're certainly keeping the date there and we'll announce what that movie is, I assume, in the next few months. (Comic Con) would be great, I'd love nothing more than to be able to announce them all there. But if it's ready beforehand, we'll probably do it beforehand. If it's not ready then, we'll do it after." Slashfilm
It was revealed late last night Marvel's unknown film will indeed be Captain America 3, which is yet again to be directed by Anthony & Joe Russo. This certainly puts pressure on Warner Bros. as Cap is already part of an established universe and could well see them moving away from the May 6th 2016 release date. THR
In other Batman Vs Superman related news, new Bat butler Jeremy Irons has revealed to Absolute Radio that the script for the film is not quite finished. Irons seems keen to work with Ben Affleck though, and that would seemingly give us some idea as to why a thesp like Irons would sign up to a film with an unfinished script. Variety
Carla Gugino is set to play Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's wife in upcoming disaster film San Andreas. Alexandra Daddario will play the couple's daughter, as they travel across a decimated city in search of her. The film is set after "the big one" hits California and will be directed by Brad Peyton. Variety
Rooney Mara is set for a role in the upcoming Pan over at Warner Bros. where she will play the character Tiger Lily. The film is a reboot of the classic Peter Pan story and already stars Hugh Jackman as Captain Blackbeard and Garrett Hedlund as Hook, while no actor has yet been cast in the title role of Pan. Heat Vision
With the heroes already cast in Fox's reboot of the Fantastic Four, talk has now turned to who will play the lead villain Doctor Doom in the movie. The list is apparently down to four (how appropriate) with Domhnall Gleeson, Sam Riley, Toby Kebbell and Eddie Redmayne all vying for the role. Personally, I think Kebbell would be great in the role, but what do I know? The Wrap
Maggie Grace will return to the third film in the Taken franchise, again playing the daughter of Liam Neeson's badass Dad Bryan Mills. Forest Whitaker is rumoured to up for the role of villain this time around, while it is currently unknown whether Famke Janssen will return as Neeson's estranged former spouse. Deadline
The marvellous JK Simmons is set to join the cast of Terminator: Genesis for Skydance & Paramount. If he signs on, Simmons will play a world weary, alcoholic detective who has followed strange cases involving Sarah Connor since 1984. The new film is set to link together different scenarios from the previous films and create a new timeline. Alan Taylor is directing with a release date of 26 June 2015. THR
