The TDF Film News Roundup
A third Taken movie has been in the pipeline for a while now, and with Liam Neeson reportedly close to signing a contract that will earn him $20 million, news has it that Forest Whitaker is also close to doing a deal with Fox Studios & EuropaCorp. Whitaker will join Neeson & co-star Maggie Grace on the project, while Taken 2 helmer Olivier Megaton is set to return as director. Deadline
Even though Captain America: The Winter Soldier isn't even released yet, word has it that Marvel are so impressed with the work of directors Anthony & Joe Russo on the project, that they have already offered them the opportunity to direct Captain America 3. While a new Captain America film has not been given the greenlight yet, the principle cast are apparently tied to three films. Of course Marvel will want to see how well the Winter Soldier performs at the box office, but early buzz suggests the film will be a hit. Variety
After the apparent success of last years Riddick, Universal Pictures are looking to produce a fourth film in the series. Star Vin Diesel took to his Facebook page to make the announcement via a video post, and strangely spent half the video lip-syncing to Dark Horse by Katy Perry. Make of that what you will, but yeah, a fourth Riddick film looks likely now. Diesel also added through his Facebook page that a script is due in the next month for xXx 3.
Bad Santa himself, Billy Bob Thornton, has joined the cast of the Entourage movie. Thornton will play a billionaire cowboy who finances the Dracula movie that Adrien Grenier's Vinnie Chase will be starring in. Mark Wahlberg will produce the movie, while series creator Doug Ellin will direct. Jeremy Piven, Kevin Dillon, Kevin Connolly & Jerry Ferrara are all returning to reprise their TV roles. THR
For me, last years The Purge was a case of a great idea badly executed. Despite a mixed critical reception, the movie made enough money at the box office to warrant a sequel, and so this year will see the release of The Purge: Anarchy. With James DeMonaco set to return as director, the film is set to change its cast members with Frank Grillo, Michael K. Williams and Kiele Sanchez all set for roles in the new movie. The new film will differ from the first by setting itself in the city, instead of a rich suburb, and where no one has access to the security systems of the first movie, thusly turning it into a warzone when all crime becomes legal for 12 hours.
