Cinema owners call for short trailers

The ad break before films in the cinema can go on forever. Whether it is with one trailer or five, it can feel like an eternity before the opening credits come up. Now, with extended footage teasers and spoilerific trailers, cinema owners have called for action and want shorter trailers before screenings.

The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) in USA have called for trailers to be limited to two minutes and that they cannot be shown for more than 150 days before the film's actual release. The organisation hopes to bring in these new restrictions from October 2014.

Whether these new guidelines will encourage other countries to follow suit is to be determined, but this could spell the end of the overlong trailer.
