The Friday Film News Roundup
Rumours are circulating over who the female lead will be in the upcoming Superman Vs Batman movie, and those rumours are currently pointing towards none other than Wonder Woman herself. Apparently Warner Bros. are in need of a woman "physically capable of going toe-to-toe with The Dark Knight". Whether this is true or not, and whether the speculation has any weight remains to be seen, but it is known that Warner Bros. & DC are looking at ways of fitting more superheroes into their cinematic universe and 2015's Man Of Steel follow up would be a good place to start. Another story for the rumour column is the news that actor Michael B. Jordan (Chronicle) is up for a role in Independence Day 2. Although no roles are specified and no actors have been officially approached, it is believed that Fox Studios are very keen on Jordan and see him as a future star in the making. The Wrap
Even though it has been a few years since we last saw Sherlock Holmes on the big screen, Warner Bros. are still keen on making a third film in the series, and Jude Law gave the following quote to Empire: "I hate celebrating anything I've done, but I'm so proud of those films. I think it was Joel Silver who said, 'Take it out of that dusty room and put it on the street.
I think Warners want it, and there's a lot of want from us as a team. We want it to be better than the other two. We want to make sure it's smarter and cleverer, but in the same realm. Empire
The huge success of Marvel's Avengers: Assemble has brought about many positive movements such as Phases 2 & 3 going into full swing at Marvel and the soon to air Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. However, one set back has been the cancellation of a potential Runaways movie. The Runaways are a group of teenagers who discover their parents are in fact a group of supervillains and have kept the secret hidden from them for years. Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) wrote the script, and in an interview with THR he said "We were really close to being made, and then this movie started to happen called The Avengers. Oddly, it pulled focus from the unheard-of brand Runaways, and it really did kind of consume the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It's there, maybe it'll be a Phase Three movie. I really hope so. I'm really proud of it and I think it'll be a brilliant film, but I think it all depends what Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel, his master plan is". THR
