From the PR:

The Quiet American - gripping, beautiful and intense - is out own on DVD and video from 8th September. A stunning adaptation of Graham Greene’s novel featuring an Oscar nominated performance from Michael Caine, this is an exhilarating tale of love, loyalty and betrayal set against the disturbing conflict in 1950’s Vietnam.

The thrilling tension at the heart of this highly evocative, suspenseful film springs from a powerful clash of personalities. Thomas Fowler (Caine – Cider House Rules, Get Carter) is an ageing English journalist for The Times who is shaken from his comfortable, colonial existence by the arrival of a young, idealistic American named Alden Pyle (Brendan Fraser – Gods and Monsters).

Their blossoming friendship soon sours when Pyle makes advances towards Fowler’s beautiful mistress Phuong (Do Thi Hai Yen). With the political situation becoming increasingly explosive, this love triangle grows ever more tempestuous. Soon, it appears nothing and no one can be trusted. Pyle, played by Brendan Fraser in a performance that matches Caine’s for sophistication and intensity, is revealed to be far from the enthusiastic innocent that he seems.

Directed by the acclaimed Philip Noyce (Rabbit Proof Fence, Patriot Games) and adapted by the talented Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons), The Quiet American is a fast-paced, atmospheric thriller, a love story, who-dunnit and period drama brilliantly combined to make this film an unforgettable experience.

Available on DVD, The Quiet American is an unmissable addition to any collection with indepth commentaries from a variety of key cast and crew members including a discussion with Director Philip Noyce and Michael Caine and Brendan Fraser. Also featuring original book reviews of Graham Greene’s modern classic and an original featurette, this DVD is a must-own from 8 September.
