Pattinson To Accompany The Queen Of The Desert
Very soon (not soon enough, for some) The Twilight Saga phenomenon will cease to be. Squealing members of Team Edward and Team Jacob will return to their bedrooms to sob into their corresponding printed pillowcases, whilst the rest of the world moves on, still baffled as to what all the fuss was about. Thankfully, the one lad that carried the franchise on his silver-skinned alter-ego is already planning ahead with the news that Robert Pattinson has agreed to venture into the sands for Werner Herzog’s Queen of the Desert.
Variety has reported that the one known as RPatz would be appearing alongside Naomi Watts, who is already set to star as the titular bit of royalty, Gertrude Bell. One of the first women to graduate at Oxford at the turn of the 20th century, Bell was a well-known writer, archaeologist, explorer, cartographer and political attache for the British Empire. She also took a trip through the Middle-East, through the borders of Iraq, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Pattinson comes into play as British army man, T.E. Lawrence who was, in fact, the basis for Lawrence of Arabia. No doubt there’s going to be plenty of grumblings from folks who will count this as cinematic sacrilege to have Edward Cullen stepping into Peter O’Toole’s shoes but hey, that’s what the comment box is for. Knock yourself out, readers.
Expect more details on Queen of the Desert when production kicks off later this year.
