Keanu Reeves Talks Bill and Ted Sequel

Guitar playing demi-gods and all-round airheads Bill and Ted have been waiting in the wings for a threequel ever since Alex Winter (aka Bill S. Preston Esq) gave it a mention last year. Since then, there wasn’t a whisper until last Friday when it was announced that Galaxy Quest director, Dean Parisot got the job to tame the Wyld Stallyn’s (air guitar at this point is permitted) for their as yet untitled adventure, leaving fans wondering how the hell they’d pull it off.

Thankfully Keanu Reeves aka Ted Theodore Logan has shared some light on the matter in terms of plot details. Speaking to GQ yesterday, the other half of this most righteous double-act spilled the beans on how Bill and Ted would handle their return.

"One of the plot points is that these two people have been crushed by the responsibility of having to write the greatest song ever written and to change the world," the actor explains. "And they haven't done it. So everybody is kind of like: 'Where is the song?; The guys have just drifted off into esoterica and lost their rock. And we go on this expedition, go into the future to find out if we wrote the song, and one future 'us' refuses to tell us, and another future 'us' blames us for their lives because we didn't write the song, so they're living this terrible life. In one version we're in jail; in another we're at some kind of highway motel and they hate us."

It’s hardly treading on new territory having present and future dude’s bickering with one another which, as fun as that’s always been is worth questioning if it’ll be enough to help an audience that nowadays would deem Bill and Ted as, well...history? Considering that it’s been 21 years since the lads last went on their Bogus Journey and the only image a time-travelling phone box is one painted blue with a doctor riding it, will what’s in store be good enough to Bill and Ted to have a comeback tour?

We can only hope that with no release date set just yet and Reeves still busy with three other projects (one being the long awaited 47 Ronin) there’s plenty of time to perfect it. Until then, be excellent to each other, party on and be sure to comment on whether or not this is a threequel you want to see.
