Natalie Portman's fury over Thor 2 change of director
Natalie Portman is reportedly furious at the apparent firing of Thor 2 director, Patty Jenkins. The Monster director had been lined up to take over from Kenneth Brannagh at the helm of the film but has, according to The Hollywood Reporter been dropped by Marvel because she was not 'acting decisively enough'; despite the fact that the whole production is waiting on a script.
Portman had been rumoured to be considering dropping out from the project and acting to spend time with her new baby but finally agreed to stay on with the instatement of Jenkins and she is now contractually obliged to stick with the production. The original film surprised many who were expecting a dud, with Brannagh's take on the source material being both reverential and exciting; it's unexpected success meant that Thor 2 has become one of the most eagerly awaited comic films that ISN'T The Avengers to be scheduled in over the next few years.
Thor 2 is scheduled to hit cinemas in November 2013 and Jenkins had been expected to be the first female director of a major comic book adaptation. Marvel are now expected to assign directorial duties to one of the team behind TV's Game of Thrones with both Daniel Minahan and Alan Taylor in the running.
