First Squad & Legend of the Millennium Dragon (UK) in December

Sony have announced an anime movie double-bill for release in the UK on 26th December 2011. Available on DVD (£17.99 RRP each) and Blu-ray (£22.99 RRP each) is First Squad from animation studio Studio 4°C and Legend of the Millennium Dragon from Studio Pierrot.

First Squad - Nadya is a very special 14-year-old girl. With amazing psychic powers and trained as an assassin, she is recruited by the Russian army during World War II to become a member of FIRST SQUAD, a special fighting unit specializing in combating paranormal forces. When she is the last member left standing in a brutal attack, she is returned to the unit for a special project – to bring her comrades back from the dead to fight Von Wolff, a 700-year-old spirit brought back to life to help the Nazis take over the world.

First Squad is a joint Russia/Japan production. The original language track is Russian.

The running time is listed as 57mins (DVD) / 60mins (Blu-ray). We note this as the imdb states 73mins and Anchor Bay list their forthcoming US release version as 75mins.

Legend of the Millennium Dragon - Based on Takafumi Takada’s 2-volume novel of the same name, Onigamiden (in Japanese) tells the action-packed story of a 15-year-old boy named Jun Tendo who is thrust back in time 1,200 years into the middle of an ancient battle between Oni (demons) and humans.
