October News Round-Up

Below is a round-up of UK releases for October not already covered elsewhere on the site. Unless noted otherwise these are barebones and DVD only…

Lots of anime this week including complete collection sets of X, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Gunsword and Berserk from MVM alongside Blade of the Immortal Vol. 1 and Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit Part 2.

Also this week is a series of Hammer Films from Sony which until now were only available through online retailer Moviemail. They are: The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll, Taste of Fear, The Gorgon, The Damned, The Camp on Blood Island and Yesterday’s Enemy.

Armageddon of the Dead - Metrodome
With the flesh-hungry undead walking the Earth, the living should be running for their life. But for Sam and his wife Jenny that’s not an option – their young daughter is lost, terrified and alone in the heart of the zombie Armageddon.

Brother - Park Circus
Takeshi Kitano writes, directs and stars in this gangster saga with a cross-cultural twist. Extras include a making of featurette, interviews with the cast and crew, trailer and photo gallery.

The Heavy - Lionsgate – DVD and Blu-ray
This revenge thriller stars Vinnie Jones, Gary Stretch, Christopher Lee, Stephen Rea, Sadie Frost, Shannyn Sossamon and Lee Ryan.

That Mitchell and Webb Look – Series 4 - Fremantle Home Entertainment
This 2-disc set includes all six episodes of the sketch show plus Bonus sketches, Outtakes, Extended Outtakes, ‘Three Square Metres Of Snow’, ‘Shooting The Cast’, and ‘Hello And Welcome’.

Solitary Man - Lionsgate
Michael Douglas stars in this drama about the twists and turns in the life of a once-successful businessman.

Trauma Season 1 - Universal Playback
This drama delves into the lives of the first responder paramedic, as they work to save lives, cope with the emotional and physical strain of their jobs, while also balancing their personal lives.

Villa Amalia - Peccadillo Pictures
Legendary French screen actress Isabelle Huppert headlines this sumptuous, passionate tale, adapted from the acclaimed novel by Pascal Quignard (All the Mornings of the World). Presented in anamorphic widescreen with French DD5.1 and DD2.0 audio and optional English subtitles, extras include a 17min interview with director Benoit Jacquot and a behind the scenes gallery.

Baccano! – The Complete Collection - Manga Entertainment
Adapted from the series of popular light novels by Ryohgo Narita and directed by Takahiro Omori (Haibane Renmei; Durarara), the Prohibition-era tale of mobsters, immortals and monsters Baccano! comes to DVD as a four-disc set featuring all 16 episodes and the following features: Episode 4 audio commentary; Episode 7 audio commentary; Episode 9 audio commentary; Episode 15 audio commentary; textless opening; textless closing; English 5.1 and Japanese 2.0 (with English subtitles) audio options.

Ben 10: Alien Swarm - Warner Home Video – DVD and Blu-ray

Beneath Hill 60 - Momentum Pictures
This Word War I drama directed by actor/director Jeremy Sims and written by screenwriter David Roach tells the story of Australia’s cat-and-mouse underground mine warfare. Extras include commentary with the writer and director and the featurette Beneath Hill 60: A Producer’s Journey.

Blood Night - High Fliers Films
A group of teenagers celebrating the anniversary of the death of a local axe murderer suddenly find themselves face to face with the realities of this haunting urban legend.

Happy Tears - High Fliers Films
This comedy drama stars Parker Posey and Demi Moore as sisters who need to return home to help with their crude but endearing father Joe (Rip Torn) deal with the beginning stages of Alzheimer's.

Hunt to Kill - Anchor Bay Entertainment – DVD and Blu-ray
Steve Austin stars in this action film alongside Eric Roberts, Michael Hogan and Gil Bellows.

Lesbian Psycho! - Peccadillo Pictures
For her birthday, Susan takes a bevy of ex-girlfriends on a camping trip with a difference. As the women bed down for the night, Sapphic frissons reverberate through the tents, while news breaks that there is a serial killer on the loose! One by one, the lesbians are picked off by an unseen assailant. But is the true identity of the killer such a mystery after all? Extras include trailers and an interview with the director.

Life Blood - Chelsea Films
In this horror a pair of lipstick-lesbian lovers are appointed by god to rid the world of evil.

London River - Trinity Films
Set against the backdrop of the 7th July 2005 bombings, London River tell the story of a friendship which develops between two seemingly unconnected people - Elizabeth (Brenda Bleythn) and Ousmane (Sotigui Kouyate). Both of them have come to London to search for their children who are missing in the aftermath of the bombings. The DVD has 16 minutes of extras, including an interview with Director Rachid Bouchareb and Academy Award nominee Brenda Blethyn, as well as the theatrical trailer.

Metalocalypse Season 2 - Revolver
Extras for this release include hidden backstories, music videos, interviews and deleted scenes.

Prisoner Cell Block H: Volume 5 - Shock Entertainment
This 8-disc set includes 32 episodes (129 to 160) previously unavailable on DVD in the UK.

Psych 9 - Indi Vision/Universal Pictures – ASDA Exclusive
Psych 9 centres on a near-abandoned hospital that has been plagued by a spate of killings. Taking a night job at the hospital, Roslyn (Sara Foster) experiences a series of disturbing events connected to a string of local murders by a killer dubbed the NightHawk. She discovers a chilling therapy room belonging to a psychologist played by Cary Elwes. When a woman working in the hospital is brutally slain, Roslyn seeks help from a detective, (Michael Biehn). But he soon realises the key to the killings may lurk deep in Roslyn’s own troubled mind…

Scooby-Doo! Camp Scare - Warner Home Video
The loveable Great Dane and the rest of the Mystery Inc. gang explore mysterious goings on at a haunted summer camp in this new animated movie.

The Story of F*** - Network Releasing
This snappy satire about the music industry from first time film-making cousins Adam and James Abadi features sex, drugs, alien abduction and crocodiles! The only extra is the original trailer.

Video Nasties: The Definitive Guide - Nucleus Films
Prepare to be corrupted and depraved once more as Nucleus Films releases the definitive guide to the Video Nasties phenomenon - one of the most extraordinary and scandalous eras in the history of British film. Last Train Home - Dogwoof Pictures
Every Spring China's cities are plunged into chaos, as all at once, a tidal wave of humanity attempts to return home by train. It's the Chinese New Year and millions of migrant factory workers are desperate to return to their rural villages and to the families they left behind to seek work in the booming coastal cities. Chinese-Canadian director Lixin Fan paints a picture of the fractured lives of a migrant family caught up in the annual migration with his debut film. The only extra is the original trailer.

Lost Boys: The Thirst - Warner Home Video – DVD and Blu-ray
Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander are back as the Frog brothers for the third in this vampire franchise. Extras include:

13hrs - High Fliers Films – DVD and Blu-ray
Tom Felton (Harry Potter), Gemma Atkinson (Hollyoaks), Isabella Calthorpe (How to Lose Friends and Alienate People) and Joshua Bowman (Holby City) star in this British horror.

Beautiful Kate - Matchbox Films
Award winning actress Rachel Ward’s directorial debut is based on the novel by American author Newton Thornburg. This Australian drama stars Ben Mendelsohn as Ned, a writer returning home cross-country, to see his dying father Bruce played by Bryan Brown and carer sister Sally played by Rachel Griffiths. Having deserted the family home twenty years previously, Ned’s return opens old wounds and awakens long buried secrets from the past.

The Big Knights - Entertainment One – DVD/BD Combi
From the creators of the hugely popular Peppa Pig and Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom comes The Big Knights, the hysterical animation series, available for the first time on DVD. Join Sir Boris (the finest swordsman in the World) and Sir Morris (not the finest swordsman in the World, but the most enthusiastic) and their trusty, armour-clad pets Horace the dog and Doris the hamster as they bash, belch and bellow their way through 13 rib-tickling episodes! Mrs Santa Claus - Metrodome

Not Like Others - Chelsea Films
This Swedish vampire thriller is the debut feature from writer-director Peter Pontikis and stars Jenny Lampa (Dead On Arrival) and Ruth Vega Fernandez (the ‘Johan Falk’ film series).

Offspring - High Fliers Films
In this horror an evil flesh-eating clan, thought to have been exterminated ten years earlier has returned with an insatiable appetite.

Running in Traffic - ISIS/Eureka
This character based drama explores the emotional journey we undertake as we strive to rebuild our lives after emotionally traumatic experiences. Temptation - ISIS/Eureka

The Time That Remains - New Wave Films
The third part of a trilogy from acclaimed director Elia Suleiman is a deeply personal depiction of Palestine in the 60 years since 1948 as seen by Suleiman and his parents. Extras include an interview with Suleiman and the theatrical trailer.

Top Gear Series 10 - 2Entertain
For the first time ever in the UK, a whole Top Gear series is being made available to own, courtesy of BBC DVD.
