News Round-Up

Below we have a round-up of recent announcements not covered elsewhere on the site…

Fox Home Entertainment will release Gentlemen Broncos on 3rd May 2010. From the director of Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess) and co-star of HBO’s “Flight of the Conchords” (Jemaine Clement), this comedy comes to DVD only with extras that include a selection of deleted scenes, outtakes, and a behind-the-scenes featurette.

Also from Fox is the Blu-ray Disc release of Minority Report on 24th May 2010. This sci-fi thriller directed by Steven Spielberg has been given a host of new extras for its Blu-ray release. Here is the full extras list:

Dogwoof Pictures will release Mugabe and The White African - a documentary from British directors Andrew Thompson and Lucy Bailey – on 10th May 2010. Extras include directors’ commentary, trailer, Al Jazeera The Fabulous Picture Show episode and a short “How We Made the Film”.

ICA Films have actress Samantha Morton’s directorial debut The Unloved coming to DVD on 10th May 2010. This film gives an intimate child’s eye view of life in a children’s home and arrives on a barebones disc.

Second Run DVD’s next release will be Czech director Jan Němec's Diamonds of the Night (Démanty noci) on 10th May 2010. Following the tense and desperate journey of two teenage Jewish boys who escape from a train bound for a Nazi concentration camp, the disc boasts an all-new digital transfer with restored picture and sound and new English subtitle translation. Extras include a filmed appreciation by author Peter Hames and a booklet featuring an essay by Michael Brooke.

Mr. Bongo Films will release Alexander Dovzhenko’s Earth (Zemlya) on 17th May 2010. Fully restored, the film will be released in its full-length version including all deleted scenes. There are no extras.

High Fliers Films have another barebones offering with Free Style which stars Corbin Bleu of High School Musical. It’s out on 26th April 2010.

Eureka Entertainment will release the 1957 Joseph Pevney directed rom-com Tammy and the Bachelor (originally released in the UK as Tammy) on 24th May 2010. Presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen with English audio and English SDH subs, the only extra is the original trailer.

The History Channel have a few titles we should cover. First up on 12th April is Dinosaur Secrets Season 1 which includes all 12 episodes over 3 discs with extras that include: ‘Chicken/T-Rex Link’; ‘Did Dinosaurs Hunt In Packs?’; ‘Dinosaur Forensics’; ‘Giant Prehistoric Shark’; ‘How Did Dinosaurs See?’; ‘How Did Dinosaurs Hear?’; ‘Men Vs Mega Bear’; ‘Most Lethal Dinosaur’; ‘What Colour Were Dinosaurs?’ and ‘What Did Dinosaurs Sound Like?’.

Then on 26th April look for WWII Lost Films which is available on both DVD and Blu-ray. The sets includes all 10 episodes plus extras such as a 30-minute ‘Making-of’ documentary and extended profiles of the soldiers, sailors and airmen featured in the series.

Last up is Ice Road Truckers Season 3 which is out on 10th May 2010. Features are TBC.

Kaleidoscope Entertainment have another barebones DVD and Blu-ray Disc release with Winter in Wartime which is scheduled for 31st May 2010. This WWII drama is priced at £17.99 on DVD and £24.99 on Blu-ray, and includes one extra (so not strictly barebones) in the theatrical trailer.

Scanbox Entertainment also have a WWII drama arriving soon. Only the Brave, starring, written and directed by playwright Lane Nishikawa is released on 26th April 2010. There are no extras.

ITV will release the final Jack Frost investigation on 12th April 2010 with A Touch of Frost Series 15. You get 2x120min episodes plus an exclusive ending (apparently three were filmed, one each for ITV1, DVD and ITV.com).

Axiom Films will release The Kreutzer Sonata on 26th April 2010. From British director Bernard Rose, the film follows Ivans XTC and is the second instalment of a planned trilogy loosely based on the works of Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy. Extras include a making-of, stills gallery and trailer.

Universal Playback have Murder, She Wrote Season 11 arriving on 26th April 2010 and Little House on the Prairie Season 6 arriving on 3rd May 2010. The former includes bonus episodes from Season 12 as extras.

4DVD will release Facejacker Series 1 on 24th May 2010. The DVD will include unseen bonus material though no further information was provided. There will also be a box-set which packaged the DVD with Fonejacker Series 1 & 2.

Network Releasing have a documentary on the celebrity obsessed media called Starsuckers which is out on 12th April with extras that include commentary with director Chris Atkins and producer Christina Slater, a companion booklet written by Chris Atkins and 100 minutes of previously unseen video footage of celebrity interviews.

Metrodome has the imaginatively titled horror Bear out on 28th June in which an idyllic trip into bear country turns into a nightmare for a two brothers and their partners. There are no extras.

Universal Pictures have the first ever feature-length Lego movie arriving on 26th July 2010. LEGO: The Adventures of Clutch Powers introduces the world to Clutch Powers and his heroic teammates, patrollers of the universe on behalf of the renowned LEGO Organization. And for the UK only, each DVD comes with a FREE kids day pass to LEGOLAND in Windsor, worth £28 (redeemable when accompanied by a full paying adult).
