Star Trek: TNG Movie Collection (R1/US BD), TOS Season 2 (US BD) & more in September - Artwork update

Paramount Home Entertainment have announced the US DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection on 22nd September 2009. This collection comprises of the four “Star Trek” films starring the Next Generation crew with new special features, plus a bonus disc with over an hour of additional content.

Priced at $39.99 SRP on DVD and $69.99 SRP on Blu-ray Disc, features are outlined below…

The 5-Disc Blu-ray Disc collection includes the films in 1080p high definition with English 5.1 Dolby TrueHD, French 5.1 Dolby Digital and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital and English, English SDH, French, Spanish & Portuguese subtitles. The 5-disc DVD collection is presented in anamorphic widescreen with English, French and Spanish DD5.1 Surround (plus Portuguese Mono on Generations, Portuguese 2.0 Surround on First Contact and Insurrection and Portuguese 5.1 Surround on Nemesis) and English, French, Spanish and Portuguese subtitles.

Bonus Disc - “Star Trek: The Captains’ Summit” - a 70-minute exclusive round table discussion hosted by Whoopi Goldberg in which William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes share candid moments and intimate details about life on the set.

Finally, and somewhat strangely, Paramount will also release The Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home, The Undiscovered Country and First Contact separately on DVD ($12.99 SRP each) and Blu-ray Disc ($24.99 SRP each).

There is one last release to discuss, and that is Star Trek: The Original Series Season Two on Blu-ray Disc. Priced at $79.99 SRP and available from 22nd September, this seven-disc set features all 26 episodes, including the celebrated “The Trouble with Tribbles”, with new seamless branching that allows fans to toggle between newly remastered versions with enhanced special effects or the episodes as they were originally broadcast. The Blu-ray collection also includes hours of featurettes, interactive bonus features and new clips via BD-Live and every disc is Mobile Blu enabled, allowing iPhone users to turn their phones into a Blu-ray remote control and download exclusive content to their iPhones.

The discs are presented in 1080p high definition with English 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, English Original 2.0 Mono, Spanish 2.0 Mono and French 2.0 Mono with English SDH, Spanish Brazilian Portuguese and French subtitles.

Debuting in 1966, Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek survived cancellation and returned with a series of films featuring Jame T Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise. It spawned four massively successes TV spin-offs and movies and ruled cult TV in the 1990s. After Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise, it spawned a film prequel / reboot under the guise of JJ Abrams but returned to its TV roots in 2017 with Star Trek: Discovery...
