Kamikaze Girls & Memories of Matsuko (R2) in January

Third Window Films have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Tetsuya Nakashima’s Kamikaze Girls and Memories of Matsuko on 26th January 2009. Priced at £14.99 RRP each, more details follow…

Kamikaze Girls - Based on the bestselling novel-turned-manga by cult author Novala Takemoto, Kamikaze Girls concerns 17-year-old Momoko (Kyoko Fukada), a self-absorbed dreamer and ‘Lolita' fashion obsessive whose love of all things Rococo sees her fantasizing about fleeing her backcountry home and living life in 18th Century Versailles. An unexpected encounter with the rebellious Ichigo (Anna Tsuchiya), a rough-and-tumble ‘Yanki' biker chick sees the two form a unique friendship and together they embark on a vividly coloured, sugar sweet, hyper-stylized odyssey of female bonding all set to a pounding J-Pop beat.

Extras include interviews with the lead actresses, the theatrical trailer and trailers for other Third Window titles.

Memories of Matsuko - Nominated for nine Japanese Academy Awards (including Best Director and Best Screenplay) and the winner of three (including a Best Actress Award for leading lady Miki Nakatani), Memories of Matsuko is an uplifting 'Amelie'-esque fairytale that gracefully, colourfully and musically glides through the decades, from the 1950s to the early part of the 21st Century, telling the touching and remarkable story of one woman's life.

Extras include a making of, film to storyboard comparisons and Third Window trailers.
