Disney offers first details on Aladdin Platinum Edition (Updated)

Walt Disney Home Entertainment have revealed the first details on this years Platinum Edition release, Aladdin, which is due on R1 DVD from 5th October 2004 as a two-disc special edition ($29.99) and special Collector's DVD Gift Set ($49.99). Following on from last years The Lion King DVD release Aladdin has been fully restored and features both 5.1 surround and enhanced home theater sound mixes. The film itself has seen 20% of the original artwork been enhanced with some characters redrawn to add more facial detail, and background colours in many scenes touched up for colour and detail.

Bonus features on the two-disc set include two audio commentaries, deleted scenes and a deleted song called "Proud of Your Boy" by Oscar-winning songwriters Howard Ashman and Alan Menken set to newly produced animation. Interactivities include a a wild virtual DVD carpet ride with all-new animation and stunning 5.1 Surround Sound; a 3-D tour of Genie's lamp; games; an option for pop-up trivia presented during the film; musical postcards; sing-along songs; and a new music video of "A Whole New World" by Disney Channel stars. Plus, the special Collector’s DVD Gift Set, available day and date, offers even more treasure for the Aladdin fan who must have it all.
