Originally performed 25 years ago at San Francisco's Cow Palace on 22nd October 1978, "Rust Never Sleeps" documents one of the most important rock'n'roll concert performances ever filmed. Produced and directed by Neil Young (alias Bernard Shakey), the film is re-released on 4th August 2003 to coincide with the highly anticipated 18th August release of Young's new studio album Greendale, and the recent re-issue of 4 rare Neil Young albums released on CD for the first time - On The Beach, Hawks & Doves, American Stars'n'Bars, and Re-ac-tor.

From the opening chords of the sensitive acoutistic Sugar Mountain to the lethal, energised rock'n'roll of Powderfinger and Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black), this rare concert documentary film shows why fans of Pearl Jam and Nirvana hold Young in high esteem. The concert depicts Young during at time in his colourful career where he was at his most diverse, exciting and dangerous. Young has achieved so much where so many singer/songwriters have failed. He has ability to adapt to the times, and constantly reinvents his music and direction for a new generation.

Rust Never Sleeps captures a time in his career where he single-handedly pioneered grunge rock years before Nirvana, Mudhoney and Pearl Jam came to the forefront. He recognised the rawness of punk rock, combined it with is folk and American rock ethos, and created a monster sound. Crosby, Stills and Nash never knew what hit them.

Like the album of the same name, the concert gives equal billing to emotionally uplifting acoustic numbers (Lotta Love and Needle and the Damage Done) as well as the sweeping, epic rockers (Sedan Delivery and Cortez The Killer) fuelled by his long time hi-octane band , Crazy Horse. With poignant lyrics in almost everything he writes, Rust Never Sleeps clearly proves that Young's creative juices are far from getting obsolete.

Re-released by Sanctuary Visual Entertainment on 4th August 2003, Rust Never Sleeps and includes previously unseen footage, making it an essential addition to any Neil Young completist. If you are going to buy the new Greendale album or On The Beach reissued on CD for the first time, treat yourself to a DVD copy of Rust Never Sleeps. In the famous last words from Young's Hey Hey, My My, "It's better to burn out than to fade away. The king is gone but he's not forgotten."

On May 21st 2003, Neil Young enthusiast Lori Faenza from Shelton, CT USA, had this to say about the Rust Never Sleeps DVD on Amazon.com - "This DVD has it all. It is one of the best sounding DVD's despite the fact it was recorded almost 25 years ago (which makes me wonder why there are so many terrible sounding, contemporary concert DVD's out there). Neil's solo accoustic performance during the first half of the film is really amazing. The guy is a total genius and he is at the top of his game througout the whole concert. The performances with Crazy Horse (The Loner and Powderfinger in particular) are similarly superb."
