Oscar Winners & Nominees

It was Peter Jackson's night. The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King picked up 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. That's the highest number of awards ever won by a film. Only Titanic and Ben Hur have equalled it.

There was only one surprise in the acting categories - Tim Robbins won Best Supporting Actor for Mystic River. Otherwise the favourites won - Sean Penn for the same film, Charlize Theron for Monster and Renee Zellweger for Cold Mountain. Lost In Translation had to be content with Best Original Screenplay while Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World took Best Cinematography and Sound Editing. As expected, Finding Nemo took Best Animated Feature and The Barbarian Invasions won Best Foreign Film.

Below is the complete list of winners and nominations with details of UK cinema release, Region 1 and 2 DVD availability and, where possible, links to DVD Times reviews.
