Diary of a Country Priest in March

Optimum Home Entertainment have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Diary of a Country Priest on 24th March 2008 priced at £17.99. Directed by Robert Bresson, Diary of a Country Priest marked the first in the director’s so-called “prison trilogy” (followed by Pickpocket and A Man Escaped) and begins with the arrival of a young, sickly priest (newcomer Claude Laydu) at his new parish in a village in Northern France. Narrated by excerpts from his diary, the film follows his efforts to awaken the villagers from their spiritual lethargy, with their struggles, suffering and triumphs representing in a microcosm those of humankind itself.

Presented in 1.33:1 Full Frame with French Mono and optional English subtitles, the only extra is the original trailer.
