Anchor Bay bring you The Osterman Weekend in March
Anchor Bay have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of the final film by director Sam Peckinpah, The Osterman Weekend, for 29th March 2004 with a retail price of £19.99. This psychological thriller stars Rutger Hauer as John Tanner, an investigative journalist and television host whose TV show specialises in exposing political scandals and corruption. Once a year, Tanner invites a small group of friends, with whom he studied at Berkley, to a social gathering known as the Osterman Weekend, named after Bernard Osterman (Craig T. Nelson), at whose home the first such meeting took place. Shortly before the latest Osterman Weekend is due to happen, a CIA operative (John Hurt) convinces Tanner that one of his friends (Craig T. Nelson, Dennis Hopper & Chris Sarandon) is a KGB operative involved in a conspiracy that threatens national security. He agrees to have his home wired with video and audio surveillance equipment in the hopes of uncovering the traitor. On arrival at Tanner's house, the friends soon realise what's going on and the amiable tone of the weekend rapidly degenerates into a tense psychological battle of wits leading to an orgy of violence.
Released as a commemorative two-disc set Anchor Bay have sourced some very special bonus features including Peckinpah's never-before-seen full-length rough cut which offers a startling new look at the final film from the still-controversial movie maverick known as 'Bloody Sam.'
