Masjävlar in June

Drakes Avenue Pictures have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Masjävlar on 25th June 2007 priced at £19.99. Winner of 3 Swedish Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best Screenplay and Best Actress) Masjävlar is the first film from acclaimed theatre director Maria Blom.

Dalarna, a county north of Stockholm, if famous for its landscape and is a popular tourist destination. The residents are called Dalecarlians. Stubborn and self-obsessed, they consider their county the heart of Sweden. Mia (Sofia Helin), the youngest of three sisters, moved away from Dalarna 15 years ago for the fast living delights of Stockholm. However, her father, Calle (Willie Andreason), is turning 70, so Mia reluctantly drives back to her hometown to take part in the celebration. Mia’s eldest sister Eivor is married with children. She has a big heart but the years have made her cynical. Her other sister, Gunilla, is recently divorced and just back from a trip to Bali. Fuelled by booze, old rivalries and hostilities surface at Calle’s birthday celebration when he announces that he is bequeathing Mia his idyllic lakeside cabin.

Presented in non-anamorphic 1.85: widescreen with 2.0 audio and forced English subtitles, the only extra is the original trailer.
