Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country Special Edition - Details here
Mommie Dearest - This is the outrageous and controversial story of legendary movie star Joan Crawford (Faye Dunaway) and her struggle with the dual role of fading actress and tormented mother. Mommie Dearest is based on the memoirs of Crawford’s daughter Christina and provides an insight into the private Crawford, trying to survive in the cutthroat movie industry and so desperate to be a mother she adopted children when she was single.
Talent for the Game - Virgil Sweet (Edward James Olmos) is the ex-baseball player turned scout who searches high and low for the next big thing to sign for his team, the California Angels. Just as Sweet’s job comes under threat he discovers a brilliant young pitcher in an Idaho backwater and both their prospects are about to change.
Targets - In a stunning directorial debut Peter Bogdanovich weaves together two disparate story lines featuring ageing horror star Byron Orlok (Boris Karloff) and sniper Bobby Thompson (Tim O’kelly) in a compulsive thriller based on the real-life killing spree of American Charles Whitman in 1966. As the pace quickens O’Kelly shows up at a drive-in theatre where Orlok is making his final personal appearance.
8th March 2004:
The Italian Job (2003) - Details here
The Italian Job Boxset - Double-pack featuring both the 1969 Michael Caine original and the 2003 remake with a retail price of £26.99.
House of Fools - As a war led by local rebels surrounds their tranquil haven, the patients of a small psychiatric hospital remain blissfully cut off from the raging conflict – safely confined in their own small restricted world. When the medical staff abandons them the lunatics are indeed left to run the asylum. Starring Julia Vysotsky as the beautiful young patient Janna and directed by Andrei Konchalovsky.
Dear God - A first leading role for Greg Kinnear sees the comedian play petty criminal Tom Turner who chooses to work in the Dead Letters Office of the Post Office rather than go to jail. Turner then takes it upon himself to read and reply to the many letters written and addressed to God. Soon his colleagues follow his lead and Turner finds himself the unexpected leader of a goodwill crusade. However, things get out of control and Turner is forced to choose between honesty and saving his own skin.
The Big Bus - The Bus of the title is the world’s first nuclear-powered coach and this parody of early 70’s disaster movies hits the mark with stereotyped misfit passengers, oil company saboteurs and a cannibalistic driver all coming together for the maiden voyage of the coach from New York to Denver. Starring Stockard Channing, Ned Beatty and Joseph Bologna this is a very funny and engaging movie.
The Tenant - Roman Polanski directs and stars as Trelkovsky, an expatriate Pole in Paris who takes over the lease of a gloomy apartment from a suicide victim and finds himself at the centre of a real or imagined conspiracy that pushes him into assuming the identity of his predecessor in that apartment. The twist to this absorbing thriller is that the previous occupant was a girl.
Charlotte's Web - A charming animated adaptation of EB White’s children’s classic which sees Charlotte the spider (voice of Debbie Reynolds) team up with Templeton the rat (voice of Paul Lynde) to save Wilbur the pig (voice of Henry Gibson) from a grizzly end.
Rugrats Go Wild - With character voices including Bruce Willis, Chrissie Hynde, Tim Curry and Flea from Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Rugrats Go Wild is the zany kids’ film that’s a ‘wild’ adventure for all the family. When the Rugrats family become shipwrecked on a seemingly deserted tropical island the babies race from one dangerous adventure to the next. When they discover that the Wild Thornberrys are on the island with them the excitement really starts!
