Fox Literary Classics in April

Fox Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of three dramatic 19th century literary masterpieces-turned-films for 24th April 2007. Based on the fictional novel by Russian author Leo Tolstoy (War and Peace), Anna Karenina (1948) stars Vivien Leigh (Gone With The Wind) as an aristocratic, young mother who indulges in a torrid romance with army officer Count Vronsky. Based on English novelist Charlotte Bronte’s dark and dramatic novel, Jane Eyre (1944) is the romantic story of a governess and her infatuation with her inscrutable employer Edward Rochester. The film stars Oscar-winners Joan Fontaine and Orson Welles. One of the best-known novels Les Miserables written by French author Victor Hugo, follows the lives of several characters, primarily ex-convict Jean Valjean, over a 20-year period in 19th century France. This epic masterpiece inspired several film adaptations, including the 1935 version, which was an Academy-Award® nominee for Best Picture, starring Frederic March (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) as well as the 1952 version starring Michael Rennie (The Day The Earth Stood Still), both of which are featured on the two-disc Les Miserables DVD. Available for the first time on R1 DVD, each disc offers revealing bonus materials including restoration comparisons and more.
