Seth, a confused young man who lives a dull-as-dishwater life in a small community in upstate New York, hates his job in a diner, is sexually ambiguous and has aspirations of a different life entirely. One day his life is turned around when helps a black escaped convict called Knowledge. Seth’s initial wariness but obvious fascination with Knowledge slowly turns into a friendship that is bound by mutual attraction. The local sheriff however, on the trail of Knowledge’s whereabouts, could threaten their relationship... This is a fascinating and sensitive exploration into the world of obsession, racial tension, sexuality and human frailty which lingers long in the mind.
Directed and written by John G. Young, starring Gabriel Mann and Laurence Mason, Parallel Sons is released by Peccadillo Pictures on 29th January 2007, Certificate 15, priced £14.99.
Ten years after the release of the critically acclaimed award-winning first feature Parallel Sons, comes the next film from John G. Young - The Reception. It covers numerous issues including gay love, greed, lust and deception and has captured the interest and imagination of audiences at festivals around the world. Despite being shot on a shoestring budget of only $5,000. Now the film is to premiere in the UK and is released on DVD by Peccadillo Pictures on 19th February 2007.
Set in a beautiful house in wintry up-state New York, French writer Jeanette and African-American artist Martin live as man and wife. Except, this is no ordinary relationship because Martin is a HIV positive gay man. They have an all-consuming love, despite the fact that it’s obviously not been consummated. Their idyllic yet simplistic life is rocked however when Jeanette’s estranged daughter, Sierra, comes to stay with her new husband Andrew. As the secrets and lies of each of the characters is slowly revealed, it’s obvious that nothing is as it seems and that all of their lives are set to change forever.
Directed and written by John G. Young, starring Pamela Holden Stewart, Wayne Lamont Simms, Margaret Burkwit, Darien Sills-Evans and Chris Burmeister, The Reception is released by Peccadillo Pictures on 19th February 2007, Certificate 15 (tbc), priced £19.99.
