Dante 01 – A forthcoming new film from Marc Caro
Former artist and comicbook designer, Maro Caro, collaborator with Jean-Pierre Jeunet on Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children, is due to make a long-awaited return to the screens with his first solo project, Dante 01, a dark science-fiction thriller.
Lambert Wilson (The Matrix Reloaded), stars as St-Georges, the sole survivor of a meeting between his spaceship and an alien entity. Found guilty of the death of his crew, St-Georges is imprisoned on Dante 01, a remote orbital space station housing six of the most dangerous criminals in the galaxy. However, St-Georges has been affected by his alien encounter and has a strange power that affects the brewing escape plots and power balance on the station.
Speaking in the French edition of Premiere, Caro explains his disappearance since his split from Jeunet as being down to the difficulties of finding someone to finance the scripts he had been working on. A French science fiction film is almost unheard of, and the film was consequently made in 40 days under a very tight budget of €8 million. Scripted in collaboration with the novelist Pierre Bordage, Dante 01 also stars Linh Dan Pham, Dominique Pinon and François Levantal. Filming is complete, but Dante 01 currently has no release date.
Caro’s former filmmaking partner, Jean-Pierre Jeunet meanwhile, is currently working on an adaptation of Yann Martel’s 'Life of Pi', a project that has already been through the hands of M. Night Shyamalan and Alfonso Cuarón.
