Rogue & Primeval - Giant crocs on the loose

Radha Mitchell is croc bait in Rogue

Not one but two monster movies about giant killer crocodiles are coming to cinema screens in 2007: a dark horror movie from Australia and a more mainstream Hollywood adventure.

The Aussie entry, Rogue is directed by Greg McLean, who made the disturbing Wolf Creek. It stars Radha Mitchell as an Outback tour guide who inadvertently leads a party of tourists, including Michael Vartan from TV's Alias, into the lair of a large rogue crocodile. It's being produced by the independent Weinstein Company.

Rogue's Hollywood rival is Primeval, from Touchstone Pictures. Filming in South Africa, it stars Dominic Purcell and Orlando Jones as TV news reporters assigned to investigate rumours of a 25-foot man-eating crocodile in the African bush. They run into trouble not only from the croc but from local warlords. Scripted by the writing team behind Terminator 3 and The Game, it's directed by TV veteran Michael Katleman.

Both films are due in spring 2007.

The last high profile croc movie was Steve Miner's tongue-in-cheek Lake Placid in 1999... unless of course you count 2002's Steve Irwin vehicle, The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course!
