Convoy in August
Optimum Home Entertainment have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Convoy for 28th August 2006 priced at £12.99. Hugely popular escapist fare from veteran director Sam Peckinpah (The Wild Bunch, The Getaway), Convoy was inspired by C.W. McCall's hit song of the same name.
Building on the late 70s appeal of the CB radio, the film focuses on a group of truckers who form a convoy under the leadership of Martin Penwaild, AKA "Rubber Duck" (Kris Kristofferson, Blade). Penwald is the most aggrieved of the bunch, having been harassed beyond the point of endurance by Lyle Wallace (Ernest Borgnine, The Dirty Dozen) a blackmailing traffic cop who pursues him through several states after ‘Rubber Duck’ fails to submit to his phoney speed trap. As news of the convoy spreads, unexpected allies join the line, and the now-gigantic illegal protest becomes the subject of national news reports.
Another ex-Warner release, Convoy is now coming to DVD once again courtesy of Optimum who now own the distribution rights. You can expect a barebones release with the film presented in anamorphic widescreen with English Mono audio.
